Stocksbridge High School art and poetry workshop

Ian McMillan teamed up with his friend, the cartoonist Tony Husband, who draws cartoons for “Private Eye”, to lead two challenging workshops at the High School.  Each day started out with some creative poem and cartoon work, involving all the students.

Then in the afternoon Ian engaged with the First World War theme and the students produced some amazing poems and cartoons.

The students work has been collated by the school’s art teacher, Duncan Sumpner, into a moving booklet.  Copies of the booklet were given to every student who participated in the High School workshops, and everyone who attended the annual Remembrance Day service at Christ Church.  During that service, one of the students read out her own composition.

Thank you to John Parry, Head of English, for facilitating these workshops
