Social Café Project Co-ordinator
A new project is being created in Stocksbridge to help isolated men and women in the area get their lives back. The project will operate a once a week café-style drop-in service, with activities and support from the agencies and groups involved. Clients of the project will be either be referred by local agencies, or ”drop in” themselves and are likely to have a range of needs that have contributed to their social isolation in the area.
This post is to be the co-ordinator of the project, which will incorporate features of what are known as a “social café” though we are looking for a more suitable name. The post holder will lead a team of volunteers, and organize the delivery of the activities, create a supportive environment and ensure the project integrates well with all the agencies and groups that are supporting it.
The three key elements of the social café will be:
- a café service one day a week where support and contact with relevant agencies can be enabled and maintained;
- a regular meeting place for activities and social interaction
- a wide range of local groups who are committing to supporting individuals to try out new activities in the area and make new links with other people and organisations.
The project is the outcome of shared development by statutory and voluntary services in the area, and is being implemented by Christ Church Stocksbridge with the support of a cross agency group. The social café will start in September 2016, after the new community building at Christ Church is finished. We expect the worker to be in post by June/July 2016, to assist with the implementation of the project.
The post is funded for an initial period of three years. The post-holder will work 10 hours per week, half on Monday’s when the social café will be open, and half flexible. The rate of pay will be £12.50 p.h. (£24,375 p.a. pro rata). Expenses will be paid.
The successful applicant will ideally have some experience or training in one or more of the fields of mental health, social services, community development, volunteer management.
Enquiries, or requests for an application pack should be made to Jenny Clarke, by emailing to billy@rclarke.plus.com .
